Hard hats and seat belts are in order for this high energy, high octane, fizz-popping rollick of a show in which four multi-talented guys, Harold Gazeau, Bruno Alves, Fran Mark and Gorka González, deliver a supersonic smash of a performance.
Produced by Spanish company Yllana, founded in 1991 as a comedy and physical theatre company but who have since diversified across the arts, TRASH! is set in a recycling centre, although it felt more like a nuclear bunker!
The foursome amuse themselves while working, by inventing musical instruments from the assorted rubbish, and playing them. Communicate in a language that can only be described as Minionish, they manage to make music from anything and everything, from discarded toolboxes and umbrellas to propane tanks, balls and binbags.
Directed by David Ottone, Jony Elías and González, the whole show is shot through with visual laugh-out-loud humour, and frenetic movement. The performers reveal themselves not only as talented movement and dance artists, but also as very accomplished musicians, and actors, with an impeccable instinct for perfect timing. There is even audience participation in the best pantomime tradition. The creativity and imagination that has gone into the making of the show is above and beyond.
The set and designs by Tatiana de Sarabia and music by Toompak just add to the evening. TRASH! Is a show guaranteed to have you come out from smiling, and remember long afterwards.
A seriously fabulous evening. And one not to be missed.
TRASH! is at the Peacock Theatre, London to March 1, 2025.
