The Hamburg Ballet has now overcome some initial issues and will be screening several recordings of works by John Neumeier over the next month. Starting the weekly series is Saint Matthew Passion, recorded at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden in 2005 and featuring Neumeier in the leading role of Jesus for the last time.
“The current Corona crisis is a historical turning-point. It is particularly severe for us as a ballet company, because our creative development is based on the daily, physical work in the Ballet Centre Hamburg. Presenting video streams of our high-quality ballet films, is also a means of creating hope and a feeling of anticipation of an end to the global crisis”, says Ballet Director John Neumeier.
In addition to Saint Matthew Passion, that was scheduled to be performed live at the Hamburg State Opera on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, screening dates have also been set for
Lady of the Camellias, Death in Venice, Beethoven Project, and Illusions – like Swan Lake. Each will be available for 48 hours as a free Video on Demand service on the website of the Hamburg Ballet. Each will then return on-line nine days later for a further 48 hours.
Hamburg Ballet have many other offerings on www.hamburgballett.de at the moment including classes, fitness videos and snippets from other ballet evenings.
