This Sunday (4.00pm) sees the final screening this season of ballets from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow: Alexei Fadeyechev’s acclaimed new staging of Petipa’s Don Quixote.
The ballet features lots of the breathtaking virtuoso dance that the company is noted for. The grand pas de deux in particular is a gala favourite, but the whole high-spirited ballet captures neatly the sunshine and wit of Cervantes’ novel and the story of how lovers Kitri and Basil overcome her innkeeper father’s attempts to marry her off to what he sees as a more acceptable, and lucrative, match.
