Stuttgart Ballet is going virtual and offering video-on-demand of selected recordings of different ballets over the next weeks. As do so many companies, they feel at this moment that it is imperative to make the art form available to as many people as possible, most especially the thousands stuck at home. So with Stuttgart Ballet@Home, they will continue to dance for audiences worldwide via video-on-demand.
The film season begins with Marcia Haydée’s spectacular production of The Sleeping Beauty. Available now until Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the recording of the revival from December 18, 2019 will be available on www.stuttgart-ballet.de and on Stuttgart Ballet’s YouTube channel.
The cast includes Elisa Badenes as Aurora, Friedemann Vogel as Prince Desirée, Jason Reilly as Carabosse, Miriam Kacerova as the Lilac Fairy and almost the entire Ensemble. Brodcast rights are complex things in Germany and Stuttgart Ballet thanks Marcia Haydée, set and costume designer Juergen Rose, the dancers of the Stuttgart Ballet, the State Theater Stuttgart Orchestra and all others involved for making this video-on-demand possible!
News from the company is that ALL the members of the Stuttgart Ballet (with a very few exceptions) have been in quarantine since March 14. Following a tour to the southern city of Friedrichshafen, five dancers and one staff member became ill and tested positive for the coronavirus. Since then, everyone has been locked down in their homes. Happily, so far all ‘patients’ are doing fine and are on their way to full recovery. Vivien Arnold, the company’s Director of Communications and Dramaturgy says the biggest challenge last week was to ensure food delivery for all dancers, provide the translation into English of all the information from the German health and municipal authorities and, of course, organize online classes and keep the dancers motivated for their home-workouts.
